Leeton Medical is a Direct Physician Care (DPC) practice in Leeton, Missouri. We are ecstatic to be a part of this innovative model of care.  We are able to offer both Direct Primary care (DPC) and Direct Specialty Care (DSC). DPC practices are small practices that allow for personalized care, direct access to your physician, and maintain very low overhead in order to pass savings directly to patients.

DPC practices reduce overhead in the following ways:

  • Minimal staff- Many DPC Physicians run their the office alone, without managers or CEOs or multiple levels of support staff. Some DPC offices have one or two additional staff members.

  • Traditional health insurance payments are not accepted- this reduces cost by eliminating the need for billing, coding, and collections departments.

  • Affordable monthly membership fees are used to cover almost all services that we offer. This eliminates the need for most itemized billing, and eliminates unexpected costs and surprise bills.

  • Supplies, equipment, and medications are purchased by the clinic, for wholesale prices, allowing many procedures to be performed or medications administered or dispensed in the office at very steep discounts.

The foundation of a DPC practice is to develop a trusting relationship between the patient and physician, rather than a healthcare corporation or business. Eliminating the need to cater to insurance companies and large medical group bureaucracies allows a physician to focus on what is best for YOUR health and situation. Since DPC practices accept significantly fewer patients (usually less than 500 in total as compared to thousands in a traditional practice), your physician can also devote more time and energy to getting to know you and keeping up with your individual healthcare needs. Imagine if you could reach your physician by their personal cell phone, with a concern…DPC restores the open communication that is so critical for high quality and safe medical care.

Leeton Medical offers traditional DPC benefits:

  • Price transparency- very few services will require additional fees, but those costs are kept exceedingly low and are plainly listed upfront. You should never receive an unexpected bill from us.

  • Reduced cost medications, imaging (x-rays, CT scans, MRIs) and labs. DPC offices negotiate lower upfront costs for services that cannot be provided in the office. Many of these services may be available at a lower cost than your insurance COPAY for the same service in a traditional office.

  • In-office procedures including skin biopsies, cryotherapy for warts and pre-cancerous lesions, skin tag removal, laceration repairs, joint injections and more. Any additional fees are essentially only the wholesale price for the medications used or administered for the procedure (numbing medications, etc)

  • Unlimited, extended, in-office visits. Standard visits are 30-60minutes long.

  • Direct access to your personal physician on their cell phone for urgent matters

We are excited to be on this journey and to be able to provide patients with excellent care at affordable prices, regardless of insurance status. Please feel free to contact us with any questions you may have, or to set up a phone or in-person meet-and-greet to determine how this model of care may benefit you and your health and medical needs!

Here are a few Frequently Asked Questions

What is Leeton Medical?

Leeton Medical is a Direct Physician Care (DPC) clinic that thrives by cutting out the middle man and welcoming you into the family. We are an insurance-free practice that utilizes a cash fee for service and membership model where you can pay a low monthly fee (similar to a gym membership that is charged regardless of frequency of use). This allows you to use the service as much or as little as you need free from the hassles of copays. Because we do not accept insurance, we are allowed much more freedom to care for our patients the way they need, without nickel and diming or unnecessary inconvenience. For more information on this unique model visit www.iamdirectcare.com.

What is Direct Primary Care (DPC) or Direct Specialty Care (DSC)?

DPC Primary Care clinics and DSC Specialty Care clinics charge patients an affordable fee, directly, and do not deal with insurance companies, making it available and affordable for everyone. This type of clinic business model is focused on the doctor-patient relationship and putting the patient first. This style of practice has gained momentum as a more affordable option for primary care and specialty care while also providing a higher level of care. Most of our patients simply pay a monthly membership fee (similar to a gym membership) which allows them unprecedented access to their physician without a fee for each visit or need. Leeton Medical is able to offer both DPC Primary Care and DSC Specialty Care, under this model. For more information on this unique model visit www.iamdirectcare.com.

Is Leeton Medical a Concierge Clinic?

DPC clinics have been compared to boutique or concierge practices because they also charge a monthly fee. However, there is a BIG difference. Boutique and concierge practices appeal to VIP type clients . They charge a high membership fee to be a VIP and then still bill visits and your insurance in most cases. DPC is about making care affordable and accessible for everyone. DPC clinics charge modestly priced monthly fees and still offer a unique and personalized doctor patient relationship. Most DPC doctors have a relatively small number of patients, roughly 200-500 as compared to the 2,000-3,000 that a big primary care office maintains. This allows for more flexible and personalized care. When paired with a health share, health savings account (HSA) or a high-deductible catastrophic insurance plan to pay for hospitalizations and emergencies, your entire membership at Leeton Medical is often less than your co-pay. For those unable to afford insurance, Leeton Medical is affordable for almost everyone and knowing all the fees and prices up front, respects your personal budgeting. If you have insurance, a Leeton Medical membership can still save you money, by avoiding unnecessary copays and expenses. If you have great insurance, you can still use your insurance to pay for anything and everything outside of the practice and enjoy the personalized care, and flexibility and a true partnership with your doctor. Membership also includes key benefits of greatly reduced laboratory tests and affordable costs for many common medications. We do this, so that people needing medical care, can actually afford to take care of themselves and improve their health, because “first do no harm” includes helping patients to protect their financial health. So you don’t accept insurance?

No, we gladly DO NOT accept insurance, which makes us free from the expensive and burdensome administrative constraints of the government and private insurance companies. This leaves us much more time to take care of YOU. This is the way medicine was meant to be practiced! Comprehensive insurance coverage just complicates most health care. For instance, would you call your insurance company to get approval for routine maintenance on your vehicle?  We all know that this would be more of a hassle than it’s worth, so why do we agree to do this with our medical care for our own health thus making insurance much more expensive than needed?  Plus, when paired with a HSA or high-deductible catastrophic insurance plan to pay for hospitalizations and emergencies, membership at Leeton Medical will be similar in cost or usually cheaper than most comprehensive medical coverage plans, with the added advantage of excellent, personalized, and easily accessible primary care. Leeton Medical membership can also be added to supplement your existing health care coverage. This allows for personalized care, convenience, and flexibility for patients who want full control of their medical care. At Leeton Medical, we offer the additional benefits of greatly reduced laboratory tests and on-site dispensation of the most common medications. This will further increase the value of your membership. If you decide to become a member, you will quickly see that we can actually save you a lot of money.

Do I still need insurance?

Yes, we advise patients to have a plan to cover large and unexpected medical costs. Membership at Leeton Medical Briseno Kenney Medical Care LLC is NOT health insurance, although it can make accessing quality medical care more affordable and convenient. We still recommend having a HSA or catastrophic insurance at a minimum so that you have appropriate coverage if an unpredictable disaster strikes. Utilizing a HSA can allow access to funds should hospitalizations or referrals to specialists be necessary. Some patients choose to use health sharing services, others insurance.

What medical conditions are you able to treat at Leeton Medical?

Leeton Medical provides adult primary care, hematology and oncology specialty care and end of life hospice and palliative care specialty care. Dr. Kenney is trained and board certified through the American Board of Internal Medicine in primary care Internal Medicine and the specialties of Hematology, Oncology and Hospice Palliative Care. She received a broad scope of training in her residency and fellowship specialty programs and is able to care for all adult ages, and address most acute and chronic patient concerns in the office. Having fewer patients and offering extended visits allows Dr. Kenney more time to focus on the health of the entire patient, which is much more complex than just picking a diagnosis and giving more medications. She explains, educates and empowers her patients to work as a team, setting their own personal goals and making decisions that they can live with. For conditions that are not appropriate to treat at the clinic, Dr. Kenney will refer you to an appropriate specialist. Serious medical emergencies will not be treated at the clinic or over the phone, but directed to the emergency room for proper evaluation and treatment.

Can children become members of Leeton Medical?

At this time, our clinic focuses on adults.

Will I benefit from a subscription at Leeton Medical if I don’t require frequent medical attention?

Of course! Membership at Leeton Medical is affordable for everyone and flexes to fit your needs. Each patient’s usage of the services will be slightly different. Through membership, you will be able to benefit from having a doctor that actually knows you and your health. Routine access to the high quality and personal care for an affordable price, is well worth a small monthly fee.

What if I need to see a specialist or if I need go to the hospital?

It is our goal to reduce or even prevent most specialist referrals and hospitalizations whenever we can. We do this by providing extraordinary care with unparalleled access. Most things do not require more “fancy” care, they just require the time and attention to actually take care of them. Time is a luxury that the average doctor’s office doesn’t have, so your concern is sent on to another doctor. When specialty referrals or hospitalizations are truly necessary, we have the time and energy to work closely with any specialists to ensure the highest level of care and attention you are accustomed to as a member of Leeton Medical is maintained.

Is my subscription tax deductible?

The laws and policies concerning this are very unclear, and hopefully changing. There was an executive order signed in 2019 that was suppose to clarify and allow use of your HSA (health savings account from pre tax dollars) to pay your membership, but their is still debate. We do not determine what is allowed or not. You should always consult with your tax consultant to clarify tax consequences in your particular circumstances.

Can I still become a member if I have Medicare?

Yes! We accept Medicare. If you have a Medicare Advantage plan, please discuss with us, to ensure the plan you selected allows you to choose your own doctor. We do not sign contracts with any commercial insurers. Our only contract is to our patients.

Do you provide vaccines?

Unfortunately, vaccination cost and availability vary constantly, making it inconvenient for a small office. Often it is more cost effective for you to get it at a local pharmacy or health department. We can help find the most affordable, convenient options for you. Seasonal vaccines, such as flu, are sometimes in stock.

What if I need medical attention while I’m on vacation or out of town?

Due to our flexible access and ability to use technology, we are often available to you even when you are away from home. Many issues can easily be solved with communication by video or phone, however, if an in-person visit is required, we will contact local direct primary care providers wherever you are if possible so that you can hopefully avoid an urgent care or ER visit.

What if my out-of-town guests require care while visiting me?

Depending on circumstance, we may be able to see your out-of-town family members who are visiting (for an agreed upon fee) instead of them having to go to the urgent care for simple matters.

Can I contact my physician after hours?

Keeping with offering convenient, flexible, and affordable full primary care, when home, Dr. Kenney can generally contacted via phone, text, email, or video chat even at nights and on the weekends. This is reserved for urgent, time sensitive, situations, such as a UTI or a cut that needs stitches. Routine needs are handled during office hours. True medical emergencies will not be treated at the clinic or over the phone, but rather sent to the emergency room for further evaluation and treatment.

Are my medical records ever shared with insurance or pharmaceutical companies?

At Leeton Medical, we maintain the highest standards of privacy. Because our practice is unique, we are not obligated to share any of your information with insurance companies or third parties, unless you specifically ask that we do so. We are happy to release any records that you want us to.
